Lars G. Hemkens, MD, MPH, is Academic Director of Clinical Trials at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Bern, and Lead of Pragmatic Trials and Real-World Evidence at the Research Center for Clinical Neuroimmunology and Neuroscience Basel (RC2NB).
He aims to improve health care decisions through pragmatic trials and by embedding research into routine care using routinely collected data. With expertise in real-world evidence, digital biomarkers, and meta-research, he designed and lead clinical trials across diverse medical fields, with a focus on novel study designs that deliver randomized real-world evidence.
Lars is also a Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Basel, was previously Senior Scientist at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Basel, is affiliated with the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford (METRICS) and was a QUEST Visiting Fellow at the Berlin Institute of Health (Charité/BIH). He is Co-Principal Investigator of MultiSCRIPT, a nationwide pragmatic platform trial within the SNSF IICT program and learning healthcare system that continuously evaluates healthcare innovations in real-world settings.
